International Training Center
The center exists to train and equip those who feel called of God to establish Cities of Refuge, based on the model of Dunklin Memorial Church. The mission is:
- To disciple people in the Christian faith
- To produce teaching materials and techniques
- To send out missionaries we have trained to help raise up leadership in other Cities of Refuge both nationally and internationally
- To provide Apostolic covering (direct supervision) and/or consultant oversight for the leaders of these Cities
- To train people to minister to the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of those with life controlling issues
- To train lay leaders in ministry
- To develop Overcomers support groups
Dunklin International Training Center is based at Dunklin Memorial Camp. The Center has started sending out teams to do leadership training in other countries that are already operating recovery programs using the Dunklin Curriculum.
Sharing the Dunklin model with the peoples of the world is a big task, but one that is not insurmountable. The leadership training has been developed and expanded over the past 50 years, and it is clear that the time has come for the vision to be shared and realized around the globe.
Dunklin is a relational model (not just a theological theory) of a working, self-sustaining “City of Refuge.” The model is a transferable concept because there are trained leaders willing to go and plant their lives to begin recovery communities.
By using the Dunklin Servant Leadership Training Program, leaders are prepared in all aspects of founding and managing new “Cities of Refuge.”
The greatest paradox in the “War on Drugs” is that the epidemic of addiction that has brought devastation to so many millions of people has also produced a whole new generation of “able ministers of the New Testament.” They are not products of religious institutions but rather men and women who have had a personal encounter with Christ and responded to His invitation to:
Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.Matthew 4:19
Our vision is to reproduce our leadership training schools in working recovery programs in the U.S. and in other countries around the world. This goal can be realized as we come along-side to train national leaders within those areas.
Dunklin International Training Center came into existence in 1992 as the worldwide epidemic of chemical addiction led scores of people around the world to contact Dunklin Memorial Church in hopes of soliciting help in dealing with addiction in their own countries. The vision that began 40 years ago has been built by thousands of individuals sharing their talents to transform a swamp into a Christian community. And by God’s grace, it has become a model that is being replicated around the world.
We are on the threshold of a spiritual movement that can bring about a new reformation in the future by creating new paradigms of church structures that will respond to the hurting people of the world.
Andrew and Erica Vahi trained at Dunklin. Their lives were transformed and they are now with Andrew’s father and mother running the “Village of Hope” city of refuge in Laitse, Estonia, now in Canada.
